10th November 2007 - Sangeet Yatra - Marwa
Venue: Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Our first Diwali at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park was a fantastic day for the whole family. The day started with dance workshops in the Underground Gallery. The informal space provided a chance for the audience to learn two dance styles Bharatanatyam and Manipuri, the first a Classical style and the latter a more Folk style. Throughout the sessions the participants and the audience had the chance to ask anything about the dance forms. A surprise Veena performance also happened, which was enjoyed by all. There was also a colourful Indian crafts workshop in which participants painted traditional clay diyas and rangoli patterns. The artists were-
- Priya Sundaresan - Bharatanatyam
- Anwesha Sinha - Manipuri
- Ranjani Mahesh – Veena
The day was wrapped up with a wonderful performance by Marwa, lead by Birmingham based composer and musician Manveer Singh. The performance took you on a musical and visual journey with the use of projections, lighting and specially composed music, of Singh’s everyday walk through the heart of Birmingham city center. It was a fascinating insight into the world of a visually impaired musician. The musicians and their team were -
- Manveer Singh - Tabla
- Ninon Foiret - Flute
- Sam Slater - Guitar
- Roopa Panesar - Sitar
- Joelle Barker - Percussion
- Dan Wilkins - Kora and Bass Guitar
- Pete Dixon - Sound engineer
- Chris Cuthbert - Lighting
- Jonathon Lee - Video projections
