Journey to India

Journey into India takes you through India from the 5th Century to the present, using the countrys rich literary heritage of poetry in its many forms of chanting, singing and spoken.
This beautifully presented performance brings the ancient Indian traditions of classical Carnatic Indian music and Bharathanatyam dance together with cutting edge contemporary music and movement, to reveal the rich and hidden meaning of these poetic texts. With original music from Vivek Rajagopalan, Manasamitra invite you to travel with the performers on an evocative journey through words, music and dance.
With previous performances at Carriageworks, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Ilkley Literature festival among other venues we are looking forward to many more future performances!
The Spring: Vasanta
May the bodiless one, the conqueror of the world, accompanied by the Spring season, ever grant you happiness. He, whose sharp shafts are the beautiful mango blossoms, whose mighty bow is the lovely Kimshuka leaf of which the string is formed by the row of bees, whose spotless white umbrella is the Moon: whose lordly elephant is the breeze from the Malaya mountain and whose bards are the cuckoo birds.
