Rudra reveraberates through the universe… a powerful force in the shape of Shiva that destroys evil and restores stability. This performance echoes the cycle of peace, disturbance, love and lament. Rudra is an ancient Sanskrit word, which loosely translates as “heightened emotion”. Manasamitra resurrects ancient Indian mythology with a stirring collision of dance and music. Contemporary kathak choreographer Sonia Sabri, brings together four dancers to create Rudra against an arresting musical score by Indo-bass, beats and electronica composer Shri Sriram. Rudra offers audiences a new experience of Indian arts.>

‘Contemporary, haunting and beautiful ‘ – Audience member, York 2013

Rudra originally premiered at York Minster as part of York Interfaith week in autumn 2013. In spring 2014 the show toured to Lincoln Performing Arts Centre, Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield; Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Leeds and Trinity Leeds.
