Spring fest! - Trailblazers Trilogy - Kadri Gopalnath at Northern Ballet Theatre

Padmashri Kadri Gopalnath, a veteran of South Indian classical music on the Saxophone, opened our first concert in the main theatre at Northen Ballet to a full audience. An innovator and a visionary, Gopalnath modified the humble Alto Saxophone to play Indian classical raga repertoire and after mastering this, combined it with Indo-Jazz and Blues, further developing its versatility and giving it a wider public appeal.
The Emperor of Indian Saxophone as he is affectionately known, presented a combination of his favourite Kritis (compositions) from over the years. The highlight was his main piece called the Ragam Tanam Pallavi in Raga Brindavani. He presented an incredible evening of soul-stirring music full of verve, power and masterful technique. He was accompanied on the violin by Jyotsna Srikanth and on the mridangam by Bangalore V Praveen.
