What does a recipe remember?
RASOI is a new Manasamitra project exploring the stories, memories, music and heritage held within South Asian food. Working with communities across Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield, we are collecting recipes and the stories that sit behind them – the people who make them, the places they remind us of, and the memories stirred up by cooking South Asian inspired food, delving into ingredients, smells and tastes.
Through 21 creative workshops, recipes will be the starting point for conversations, poetry, music, storytelling and sound. Dates of workshops will be announced soon, but if you would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you.
A selection of the stories and recipes gathered in the coming months, will be brought together in a new creative recipe book and digital archive, celebrating South Asian food heritage as something living, evolving and shared between generations. All recipes included in the collection will be vegetarian and we can’t wait to read them, our taste buds are already tingling!

You don’t need to be a writer or a cook to take part. Your story can be as simple as a few words about why a recipe matters to you.
RASOI is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to create a project that really celebrates and protects the food heritage of South Asian communities across West Yorkshire.
