Animo

Our Artistic Director Supriya Nagarajan has been commissioned to create a new piece for Animo.

Animo’s Yanna and Sarah selected Supriya as one of their composers after a national call-out. The work is underway along with a lot of laughs and oohs and aahs….

Watch this space for the beautiful music that is in the making.

Morning Music – 9am IST  on the 27 of February

Supriya Nagarajan/Duncan Chapman/Lucy Nolan

From the undulating landscape of Yorkshire in the UK comes the dawn chorus of the birds accompanied by the magical sounds of the harp and mellifluous Indian vocals. Bhakti (devotion) and serenity lie at the core of this journey. Supriya Nagarajan plays with different languages from the North to the South of India to awaken the senses and reach out to the meditative inner core of the brain. Accompanying her on this journey are Lucy Nolan on the harp and Duncan Chapman on flugelhorn, field recordings and electronics. This cultural and musical juxtaposition of words and sounds will create a restful and peaceful start to yet another interesting day with JLF.

Fair Access Principles

Manasamitra is a small arts charity located in the heart of West Yorkshire. We are able to see first hand the impact of access on artists and their sustainable practice. The team and board believe passionately that we must do our utmost to create a level playing field for every opportunity we can offer . We are therefore fully committed to the Fair Access Principles set out by Sound and Music.

100 Human Voices: Kirklees Biennale

100 Human Voices’ is about bringing together 100 young people from different parts of the county on the theme of happiness. The ultimate objective is to create a soundscape concert where we curate human voices into a seamless music piece.  The voices could be reading a poem, singing, reciting or even just creating sound through body percussion(clapping) and/or collected sounds. We could run a series of singing/ sound workshops to enthuse participants and encourage participation. Following the interactive sessions we will invite participants to submit recordings and then there will be a big “happiness” concert where we bring people together to listen to the performance event. This is being organised as part of the Kirklees Biennale. Manasamitra will be working with Greenhill First School and Boothroyd Primary Academy.

This project is supported by Arts Council England through the Kirklees Biennale and the Sir George Martin Trust
