Manasamitra presents MELTWATER at Howard Assembly Room, Leeds

Crashing ice, running streams, devastating power and awe inspiring beauty – the sights and sounds of a melting glacier come together in MELTWATER, a 60 minute audio-visual performance showcasing water as an environmental disruptor and taking inspiration from the startling fact that in the last two decades the rate at which the polar ice caps is melting has doubled.

Sound and field recordings, performed by Duncan Chapman, and footage of melting glaciers by Richard Sidey, will be accompanied by a world class ensemble featuring Indian classical vocalist Supriya Nagarajan, Lucy Nolan (harp), Karin De Fleyt (flute) and Simon Limbrick (marimba).

Created by Nagarajan, MELTWATER is the culmination of Manasamitra’s Terrarium project.

Join us for an important and fascinating post-show talk from Dr Natasha Barlow, an Associate Professor of environmental and sea-level change, and Duncan Quincey, Professor of Glaciology, both from the University of Leeds.

This performance is part of Opera North’s Green Season
