Yorkshire to India..a journey though the landscape through music. This month Supriya Nagarajan takes you on a journey exploring Synaesthesia by connecting Indian music with spices. Be prepared for a journey that talks about taste, smell, sound and visuals as cardamom competes with cloves. In this edition Supriya celebrates music from the shores of South India in a unique and inimitable style whilst capturing some of the scenes from an Indian kitchen. Enjoy the discussion on “Sound of Tea” alongside the music of bats from the Hampshire woods and much more.
We are happy to announce that Supriya is now going to assume a new avatar and host a radio show on Gilles Peterson‘s radio station Worldwide FM every second Thursday of the month from 6am to 8am in the morning… so interested listeners can wake up at lark time to her talking music! The first show goes live on Thursday 10 June 2021 at 6am and is an introduction to Supriya and her music world. It is for all of you lovers of Indian music/experimental tones and somewhere in between and those wanting learn about this music for the first time – tune in and have a listen. Thanks to WorldwideFM for hosting me and looking forward to some fun times.
Manasamitra is looking forward to renewing its live activity as the Covid-19 National Lockdown is eased. One of the highlights during lockdown has been the ability to explore new uncharted territories -which the Resonance residency brought about. Exploring songs from the fishing communities off the shores of South India and SriLanka, re-imagining the folk melodies that the women sing as they pound rice and a poem to celebrate paddy planting – all form part of this residency.
Watch the space for the release of three podcasts that follow this journey and a final sharing due to be announced shortly.’
